Founder-Roger WIlliam
Richard William was the founder of Rhode Island and came here because he had a long history of disagreeing with religious and political authority. He was banished from Massachusetts so he came here to start a colony for religious freedom. Another reason for settlement was because people from Massachusetts came to Rhode Island for religious freedom. Dutch West India Company had established a trading post, so people could trade.
